Oops

Somehow I've gotten off the blogging bandwagon. Burn out maybe.

Blogger is switching things up on my over the next few weeks, so there is a good chance I might not post again until I figure out the changes. Hopefully I'll get back into the swing of things in March!

Turkey

Thanksgiving weekend was busy, but also mellow. We began by going to the traditional Thanksgiving Eve dinner in NYC with New York Pop, Grandmom Judy, Regular Pop, and Jennie.

Here Robby "poses" with NY Pop, who will be 100 years old next month!

The following morning, Sammy had a project to do: create placecards in the shape of The Mayflower for the total of 31 guests who would arrive later that afternoon for Thanksgiving dinner.

This used to be something that my brother and I would do for Thanksgiving dinners at my grandparents' house when we were little.

Sammy really liked that we had to use tools to break open each walnut shell!

Guests began arriving and filling up the house--the perfect time to make a new train layout! Karen helped Sammy line the trains up for the start of a new outing:
Robby, pumpkin lover, had to show every new guest the pumpkin lights that hung from the buffet table:
Where's the food? Poppop Fred and Matt slice, while Barry somewhat patiently waits:

My cousin Karen is the pastry chef at a brand new restaurant in Greenwhich, CT. She brought along her two friends and coworkers, Atsu and Kristy to Thanksgiving, since they now live far from their families. Atsu is the restaurant's sushi chef, so naturally, we put him to work on the mashed potatoes.
They were rather delicious.

At one point I counted 15 people in the kitchen. Not all of them were necessarily helping out.
Here are 7 of them: Atsu, Kristy, John, Ellen, Matt, Annie & Joe.

Robby was "eh" on the turkey, but liked the vegetables. He followed up his meal with some yogurt.
Like his outfit?

It was getting late, so Caitlin gave him a bath:

After bath, Robby and Caitlin discovered Ellen and Sammy playing, "jump off the bed onto the aerobed." Robby had to join in (shocking!)
So did Poppop Fred:

Only somehow Poppop Fred missed the aerobed:

After all that jumping, it was time for dessert. Sammy was a little sweaty.
Make that very sweaty:
He was so tired that he could barely lift the ice cream to his lips:

Then it was off to bed!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Robby: 18 Months!

Robby is officially one and half years old!

Can you say, "Bruiser?"

He is also really, really not a babs/kickinthebrass.com-bytes_log gg nto all sorts of trouble. Luckily, he's still really cute.

November Stuff

Hi!
I really, really, really love pumpkins!
When I walk around the neighborhood, I keep a lookout for porch pumpkins, then make whoever is with me go over to the pumpkins so I can say hello.

But my favorite pumpkins are the ones in my house (real and paper decorations on the windows.) These two are from one of my great grandfathers, who likes to make scary faces with white-out, markers and paint. It's his speciality, and mommy says he used to send them to her when she was in college, whatever that is. Sammy's is on the left, mine on the right:
Hooray for pumpkins!! Yesterday mommy told me that I'll soon be able to taste pumpkins in a pie. That sounds awesome!

In other news, I also like ducklings:

Shoes!

Robby loves other peoples' shoes. Today he tried on Daddy's sneakers:

...then Sammy's rain boots.

Surprisingly, it was easier for him to walk in Daddy's shoes than in Sammy's!

Halloween #4 and #2

Happy Halloween!

Robby was a monkey. You might recognize this monkey costume from Sammy's first Halloween, and also last year, when it was too big, but we put Robby in it anyway. He thought it was a little bit of a bother at first:

But he got used to it, so off we went to Centre Street to trick or treat!
My old friend Mary was in town for a work visit, so she valiantly braved the crazy costumed crowds out on the street with us. It was a little overwhelming, even for the adults. Sammy and Robby were joined by their friends Joshua (construction worker), Noah (cowboy), Liam (monkey), Robert (dinosaur), and their parents.

Sammy was a firefighter (after much deliberation. Also, it was windy, so his hat kept blowing off):
Woohooo! Smarties!!

Robby really wanted to eat this lollipop:

He still wants to eat the lollipop:

What else did we get?

One of the best treats about trick or treating on Centre Street is the open Firehouse. The firefighters not only give out candy, they also let the kids explore the engines and equipment:
The firefighter, Monkey and astronaut pose on engine #10

Sammy had a great time with the firefighter pole:

Back on the street, Robby tried to give a treat to a friendly dog we met:

The whole family on the truck!

Finally, the boys had a post Halloween breakfast with our pumpkins.

Hope your Halloween was filled with treats!

Autumn in New England

It was a bit early for foliage, but a perfect day for many other fall activities: apple picking, hay riding, tree climbing, pumpkin sitting, and of course, eating cider donuts.
We went to Honeypot Hill Orchards last weekend with a whole bunch of people. Actually, just Sammy and I went, because Robby had a double ear infection, so he stayed home with Daddy.

Sammy was a bit nervous about the hayride at first (see below), but he seemed to finally realize, "Oh, I'm on a tractor," then started requesting another ride.

He definitely enjoyed picking apples, but liked climbing trees even more.
After he ascended a ladder, we would employ some team work: Sammy picked the apples, then passed them to me; I threw them to Sean, who threw them to Kim, who inspected each one for bad spots, then deposited them into the bag. We all went home with some lovely apples!

Honeypot Hill has some animals, too, but they are all behind fences. If you want to feed a goat, you have to use this conveyor belt, which delivers awful smelling goat treats up to the top of the goat play structure. Yes, the goats have their own playground.

Here's Sammy, Kelsey, Cali and Shea (Adam's daughter and nieces) and a friendly scarecrow.

Sammy and Sean had fun in the pumpkin patch (if you look carefully, you'll see Adam hustling on over):

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

And last but not least, here are the boys in the tub, having fun!
